The town of Jiangqiao in Shanghai's Jiading district hosted a meeting on Feb 20 to discuss ways to boost the town's cultural industry and explore potential development plans.

The area boasts many cultural institutions including the Shanghai Painting and Calligraphy Academy, Yanhuang Culture Research Society, Shen Kiln Art Center, and artist studios belonging to China National Academy of Painting.

The attendees also discussed how to promote Jiangqiao's local culture and historical importance with local culture authorities stressing the importance of structured development. These authorities urged the government, market players, and non-governmental forces to work together to promote the culture industry and emphasized the importance of building a strong cultural brand.

The meeting was considered a firm step in the right direction, on account of it bringing together important local cultural institutions to consider mutual cooperation, building Jiangqiao's cultural brand, harvesting cultural resources, and activating cultural vitality.

According to Jiangqiao's 13th Five-Year Plan, the town will build a variety of cultural landmarks over the coming years including a Shanghai-style Cultural Park, Shen Kiln Art Center, North Hongqiao Cultural Innovation Zone, International Martial Arts Exchange Center, Shanghai-style Rosewood Furniture Museum, and North Hongqiao Sports Center. It is hoped the landmarks will turn Jiangqiao into a greatly recognized cultural center.
