The Shanghai Industrial Technology Research Institute (SITRI) in the Jiading district of Shanghai announced the opening of an innovation center in Belmont, California, US, on Oct 19.

The step arises from the development of the Internet of Things (IoT), a new generation of information technology. The Internet of Things represents a vast opportunity and "More than Moore" technologies are at the heart of it, said Yang Xiao, CEO of SITRI.

Yang went on to elaborate that the R&D of "More than Moore" technologies requires the integration of multi-disciplinary technologies which raises new challenges in engineering and manufacturing that only the largest and most sophisticated companies are capable of meeting. SITRI's new center addresses these challenges by speeding up the application and commercialization of "More than Moore" technologies.

Jeremie Bouchaud, senior director of IHS Technology, a global market research firm, said that the new center is paving the connection between China and the US' Silicon Valley in high-tech innovation and commercialization. Many venture capital firms see great potential in the center and want to invest in it.

The Shanghai Industrial Technology Research Institute is dedicated to the development and commercialization of "More than Moore" technology. Its mission is to become a world leading R&D center that works with global partners to fuel innovation in the IoT, thus making Shanghai an IoT industrial center.
