Eighth Research Institute of Nuclear Industry

Established in May 1963, the Eighth Research Institute of Nuclear Industry has accomplished many national scientific research missions and made great contributions to the development of the country's nuclear industry.

The institute has won nearly 100 awards including first and second place at the National Technology Invention Awards; second and third national prizes for Progress in Science and Technology; first, second and third ministerial prizes for Progress in Science and Technology; and gold and silver prizes at the Brussels Eureka World Fair for Invention.

It was recognized as an "Advanced Unit for Scientific and Technological Achievement Promotion" granted by the State Commission of Science and Technology for the National Defense Industry (1982-2008). It also received a gold prize from the China Technology Market Association recognized by the Ministry of Science and Technology.

During 2009, the year of the 10th anniversary of China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), the institute won the honor of the CNNC Outstanding Award for Science and Technology Achievement, one second national prize for Progress in Science and Technology, and the 2009 Shanghai Model Home award. It received approval for application for its infrastructure projects by the State Administration of Science and Technology for the National Defense Industry in December. It also closed three research projects and opened four new ones.

Its main business revenue was 167 million yuan ($27.28 million), an increase of 9.9 percent year-on-year in 2009. It boasted a total of 140 employees including 70 professionals (12 of them with medium or high-level professional titles) by the end of 2009.
