About the district
The Hauraki District lies to the south of Auckland, the largest city in New Zealand. With a population of 17,184 and an area of 1,144 square kilometers, the region is close to the seaside and has large stretches of pasture. The scenery there is beautiful and pleasant.
Establishment of friendly relations
Introduced by Mr. Wu Keming, Chinese consular-general to Sydney, Hauraki Mayor Basil J. Morrison sent a message to the district of Jiading in October 2000, expressing the hope for friendly exchanges.
On April 6, 2001, the two sides signed the Agreement on Friendly Exchanges and Cooperation Between Jiading District of Shanghai Municipality of the People's Republic of China and the Hauraki District of New Zealand.
On September 14, 2001, the two sides signed the Agreement on Establishing Friendly Relations Between Jiading District, Shanghai, China, and Hauraki District, New Zealand.
