The high-speed railway connecting Qingdao and Rongcheng, the easternmost city on the Shandong peninsula, will open for operation this October, according to the local railway administration on Feb 23.

As the first inter-city high-speed railway in Shandong province, the railway is 300 kilometers long and has 13 stations. Reaching speeds of 250 kph, the railway will cut the travel time between major cities such as Qingdao, Yantai and Weihai.

Additionally, the railway administration plans to add more fast trains from Qingdao to major cities such as Beijing and Shanghai to meet the increasing travel need of passengers and invigorate the transportation market in Shandong.
