Qingdao to build a seismic monitoring station

The coastal city of Qingdao, Shandong province, will build a pilot center for quake prevention and disaster reduction. It will feature seismic monitoring, emergency command, incubation of scientific and technological achievements and seismic knowledge popularization, the Chinese-language Qingdao Daily has announced on Dec 17th.

With a total area of 8,776 square meters, the seismic monitoring center is located in Huangdao district of Qingdao and obtained an investment of 77.24 million yuan ($12 million). The two-storey building will be equipped with a network, a parking lot, a monitoring field, a decision-making system for emergency control, and a seismic knowledge popularization system.
