The city of Qingdao, East China’s Shandong province opened its first island library recently on Lingshan Island in the city’s West Coast New Area, Qingdao’s municipal government announced, explaining that the library could provide reading, on-line study and multimedia training services for the residents, soldiers and visitors to the island.

The library was built by the West Coast New Area government – giving visitors access to about 5,000 books, 20 computers and some multimedia equipment.

Readers can apply for library cards with their ID cards to borrow books for free. The library will play hit films and popularization programs about law, farming and raising.
