1st Qingdao International Art Biennale to kick off in September
The 1st Qingdao International Art Biennale will be held in Qingdao, Shandong province, from September 22 to November 22.

With the theme of “pulse of the city”, the biennale aims at showing off the diversity of art forms from different countries to Qingdao residents. It will focus on art, fashion and nature to integrate art into the city. Hundreds of artworks from different countries will be presented during the biennale, including paintings, sculptures and photography. The local culture and history of Qingdao will display the beauty of the coastal city to the world.

The term ‘Biennale’ is most commonly used within the art world to describe large-scale international contemporary art exhibitions that happen every two years. There are various biennales around the world such as the Venice Biennale which was first held in 1895 and Paris Biennale launched in 1959. In China, Beijing and Shanghai have both already successively held international art biennales.

Qingdao’s International Art Biennale is being staged by the Publicity Department of CPC Qingdao Municipal Committee, Qingdao Federation of Literary and Art Circles and Qingdao Artists Association.
