The 2013 China Ocean Economic International Talent and Industry, Academy and Research Cooperation Conference concluded on Oct 22 in Qingdao. Letters of cooperation intention were signed for more than 340 scientific technologies and talent introduction projects, Qingdao Morning News reported on Wednesday.
The conference opened on Oct 21. Nearly 60 contracts for overseas talent introduction, involving a total investment of 280 million yuan ($46 million), and 21 contracts on scientific technologies were signed.
"As a medium-sized company in Jimo, we are so honored and flattered to receive support from the Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS)," said the head of a local enterprise.
The Qingdao Science and Art Institute, an organization attached to the Institute of Automation of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, signed a strategic cooperative framework agreement with Qingdao Qindao Electric Co on Oct 22. Backed by the Qingdao municipal bureau of science and the Jimo municipal government, the institute will help Qingdao Qindao upgrade its production line with CAS's deep reservoir of expertise in automation.
In addition to the cooperation projects on science and technology, talent-introduction is of equal importance. Shi Bintao, graduate of the Wharton School of Business of the University of Pennsylvania, secured his new job at Qingdao Machinery Industry General Company. His education experience and rich knowledge will benefit the company's ongoing overseas projects.
The conference put out over 1,100 pieces of information relating to demands in scientific technologies and talent. It received more than 1,400 cooperation intentions covering academic research and pioneering projects.
The event invited 75 overseas high-level talents and 45 scientific institutes. It attracted more than 400 enterprises and over 2,000 participants.
