A feasibility study report on Shandong's first cross-sea subway was recently approved, and construction will start next year, Ifeng.com reported.

Qingdao metro Line 1, the first subway that goes undersea, will connect Qingdao and Huangdao, lining up five districts in between. Upon completion, it will connect the city transportation network with Line 2 and Line 3.

A total of 39 stations will be established along Line 1. The average distance between two stations is 1,567 meters, the farthest being 7,775 meters and the shortest 740 meters. There are two subway bases, one parking lot and one control center along the line.

The cross-sea line stretches about 60 kilometers and is backed up by an investment of 34.9 billion yuan ($570 million). Construction will take five years.
