Eight days have passed since the 23rd Qingdao International Beer Festival opened on Aug 10 in Laoshan district of Qingdao, Shandong province. More than 2 million tourists have come to Qingdao International Beer City over the eight days. Altogether, visitors have consumed more than 600 tons of beer. The festival received more than 350,000 visitors on Aug 17, reaching a historic high in the beer city, Qingdaonews.com reported on Monday.

Xia Qizheng, general director of the 23rd Qingdao International Beer Festival, said that visitors have a plethora of beer options this year. Local visitors prefer foreign beers while others prefer Tsingtao beer. This year, sponsors have vigorously popularized the festival through news media including People's Daily overseas edition and The New York Times.

In addition to enjoying beer and barbecue, visitors also partook in carnival activities, such as the carousel, Ferris wheel and drop tower.

Themed around wisdom, the beer festival also provides intellectual services. Visitors can obtain the latest information through two-dimensional barcodes on their mobile phones. They also have the opportunity to win cars when taking part in activities.
