There were a total of 475 cultural centers cinemas and theatres, 185 cultural centers (stations), 10 museums, 13 public libraries, 7 performing arts troupes, one radio and broadcasting station with 12 programs and one TV station with 15 programs. Cable TV users numbered 2,258,000. 28,660,000 magazines and 1,086,160,000 issues of newspapers were published. There were 14 archives in Qingdao.
At the end of the year, there were 2,606 public health institutions (including clinics). Of the total, there were 288 hospitals, 28 epidemic prevention institutions, 13 children and women’s health care centers and 1,950 clinical and medical health locations. There were 55,000 medical professionals, including 22,000 doctors. Medical beds numbered 47,000, with 41,000beds in hospitals and clinics.
Qingdao athletes won 319 gold medals, 227 silvers medals and 200 bronze medals in various games, creating 1 new national record. There were 1 professional sport teams totaling 84 members. Key sports schools numbered 2, enrolling 984 students. Part-time sports schools numbered 12, enrolling 1,624 students. Mass sports and fitness exercise programs were very popular and enjoyed all over Qingdao.
