Preliminary statistics showed that the total energy consumption of industrial enterprises above the designated size in Qingdao in 2012 was 16,890,000 tons of standard coal, up 2.2% over the previous year. Consumption of raw coal decreased by 3.5%; consumption of crude oil increased by 9.4%; and consumption of natural gas rose 71.7%. The total power consumption was 20 billion kilowatt-hours; rural and urban residents’ power consumption was 5.2 billion kilowatt-hours, up 2% and 3% respectively. The total installed capacity of wind power was 400,000 KW, increased by 2.1 folds; the wind power generation output was 0.45 billion kilowatt-hour, up 4.8 folds.

The air quality of functional regions all reached the desired standards. Acceptable air quality percentages in urban areas reached 340 days, accounting for 92.9% of the whole year, and increase of 1.4 percentage points over the previous year. Environmental noise pollution in urban areas averaged 53.7 dB. Noise pollution at traffic trunk lines in urban areas averaged 68.4 dB. A total of 13,900,000 trees were planted in the urban area. “Green area” coverage reached 44.78%. The "green area" of parks and gardens totaled 21,121.44 hectares, up 4.4%. The increase in public "green area" was 147.63 hectares. Per capita “green area” was 14.58 square meters. There are 80 parks and zoos in the city of Qingdao.

There were 2,355 accidents happened at work, down 8.9%, with 388 people died, down 9.1%. The death toll from work accidents for every RMB 100 million of GDP was 0.053 persons, a decline of 18.5%. The road traffic death toll per 10 thousand vehicles was 1.9 persons, a decrease of 9.5%. No extraordinarily large accidents happened.
