Shinan district is located in the south of Qingdao city. It borders Tuandao island to the west, Maidao island to the east, and Shibei district to the north.

The district has an area of 30.01 square kilometers with a length of 12.7 kilometers from east to west and a maximum width of 4.8 kilometers from north to south. It has a registered population of 548,500 as of 2011. By the year of 2011, its GDP reached 63.42 billion yuan ($ 10.26 billion) and added value of the tertiary industry reached 57.12 billion yuan.

Shinan has a favorable business environment. With more than 800 logistics and shipping companies and 314 headquarters of various companies, it was elected as one of the nation’s first demonstration base for headquarters economy, and the influence of its modern service industry has been spreading across the Shandong Peninsula.
