Nearly 2,000 professionals from the rubber industry all over the world gathered in Qingdao Kempinski Hotel for the 2013 China Rubber Conference and China Rubber Industry Exposition on March 26.

"China's Petroleum and Chemical Industry weathered a tough economic climate both at home and abroad in 2012," said Li Yongwu, chairman of the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association, "but the industry realized stable development last year."

The annual output value of the industry amounted to 12.24 trillion yuan ($1.97 trillion) last year, an increase of 12.2 percent over the previous year, according to authoritative statistics.

The industry also completed an annual investment of 1.76 trillion yuan ($283 billion) for fixed assets, a 23.1 percent increase year-on-year. Total export-import volume reached $637.6 billion, 5.1 percent higher than the previous year.

"The external demands will do less to impact industrial growth in 2013 due to the weak economic situation abroad," said Li.

However, Li had confidence in the domestic market, "The domestic needs and the relevant downstream industries will perk up the demands of petroleum and chemical products including rubber goods."

The China Rubber Conference is an international, professional rubber event that is regularly hosted by the China Rubber Industry Association once a year. It is not only the greatest and most significant event for the rubber industry in China, but also attracts great attention and recognition internationally.

The general meeting was held in the Kempinski Meeting Room, one of the largest pillar-less grand ballrooms in the Chinese mainland.
