The Botanical Pavilion for the 2014 Qingdao International Horticultural Exposition, one of the biggest steel-structure botanical pavilions in Asia, sealed its roof on Jan 23.

The pavilion has an overall floorage of 22,749 square meters and was built with more than 14,000 steel bars that weigh 3,000 tons total.

The steel materials have high ductility and are resistant to earthquakes and wind. They are also safe for the environment. The steel-structure pavilion can last for about 50 years, and all the steel materials can be recycled after demolition.

The glass walls of the pavilion are now under construction. By the end of May, the pavilion will have a shining roof consisting of 15,000 pieces of weathered glass. The Botanical Pavilion will be completed in September 2013 with four exhibition areas spread over two floors.
