McGrady leaves NBA for Qingdao

Seven-time NBA All-Star Tracy McGrady was officially announced as a member of the CBA's Qingdao Eagles at a news conference on Oct 13.

He had already confirmed his intentions on Wednesday, and finalized his contract on Oct 12.

"We've signed him for the entire 2012-13 season without opt-out clauses and we have the priority to extend the deal next season," said Qingdao manager Sheng Xishun.

McGrady, who is already popular in China because he was teammates with Yao Ming on the Houston Rockets, had been rumored to be headed to the CBA for the past two years. His negotiations with Qingdao have been widely reported over the last month, both in China and the US.

The 33-year-old will join the team on Oct 24 in Qingdao with two agents, a body guard and an assistant. he might change his long-time No 1 jersey number, the club said.
