Liaozhong county, in Liaoning province, has announced that it has put 120-million yuan ($19million) into an agriculture demonstration area for research, planting, and tourism, the first project of its kind, on Nov 17.
The base handles both the growing and processing of fruits for more efficient production, and says it expects to produce 328,000 kilograms of fruit, and 15,000 kilograms of fruit products, including juice and wine.
It also has plans for newer species of fruit trees, many of them the first of their kind in northeastern China, and will encourage tourists to do their own pricking or come for sightseeing and other activities.
The county has been gradually moving towards a market-oriented model of farming since 2008, with emphasis on scale and standardization.
