Wuxi, a leader in developing new generation information technologies in Jiangsu province, took part in the fair as a "partner city". Covering an area of 1,000 square meters, the Wuxi pavilion was made up of 26 enterprises displaying achievements in the latest intelligent technologies, environmental protection, national intangible cultural heritages such as the erhu, and sightseeing.

Meicun town in Wuxi's Xinwu district is famous as the birthplace of the erhu and today is home to 18 workshops producing approximately 40,000 instruments a year. Meicun-made erhu accounts for nearly 25 percent of China's entire erhu market, with Gu Yue, Guang Guo and other companies gaining worldwide attention.

The former Wuxi New District, now known as Wuxi Xinwu district or Wuxi National Hi-tech district, was founded in 1992 and underwent administrative changes in 1995, 2002 and 2005.
