Leading medical foods company to build Chinese center in Wuxi

Christine M'Rini Puel, vice president of the global research and development department of Nutricia, visited their new Chinese production base Wuxi Hi-tech district on Aug 27.
Nutricia is a part of the French-based Danone group that specializes in therapeutic food and clinical nutrition. The Wuxi center will be one of its two bases worldwide for the research and development of medical foods.
Medical foods, also called food for special medical purposes, are specially formulated and intended for the dietary management of a disease that has distinctive nutritional needs that cannot be met by normal diet alone.
Wang Jinjian, Party chief of the Wuxi Hi-tech district, welcomed the group led by Christine and spoke highly of their economic support for the Wuxi Hi-tech district.
"As an influential healthy food company, Nutricia owns leading technology, considerable benefits and broad prospects, and has opened a production line for medical foods in the Wuxi branch this year. The Wuxi Hi-tech district will continue to support its development as its Chinese base for medical foods."
Christine said: "In the next five years, we will develop and market more than 20 special medical food products that meet the needs of China, and then in the world."

The former Wuxi New District, now known as Wuxi Xinwu district or Wuxi National Hi-tech district, was founded in 1992 and underwent administrative changes in 1995, 2002 and 2005.
