Wuxi People's Congress holds 2nd plenary meeting

The First Session of the 16th Wuxi Municipal People's Congress opened its second plenary meeting at the municipal hall of Wuxi in Jiangsu province on Feb 15.

The meeting, presided over by Ding Dawei, deputy director of the standing committee of the Wuxi People's Congress, was attended by 425 Wuxi People's Congress members. Those gathered reviewed the work carried out over the past year and made work arrangements for 2017.

Yao Jianhua, director of the standing committee of the Wuxi People's Congress and deputy secretary of the Wuxi Party leadership group, delivered a work report reviewing the past year on behalf of the standing committee of the Wuxi People's Congress.

According to the report, the standing committee in its term of office launched 37 plenary meetings, 59 chief meetings, formulated and modified 21 local regulations, rolled out 24 innovative measures concerning the duty system, handled 63 work reports, and organized 20 inspection visits.

Yao said the next five years will serve as a critical step for Wuxi to build a harmonious and prosperous society. He vowed that the new standing committee of the Wuxi People's Congress will be be selected promptly and take full responsibility for pushing the city's development forward, making Wuxi a livable city with a strong economy, rich and diverse population, beautiful environment, and a highly civilized society.

Shi Yongcai, chief justice of the Wuxi Municipal intermediate people's court and Yu Botao, acting chief procurator of the Wuxi Municipal people's procuratorate also delivered work reports at the meeting.

The meeting ended by passing documents related to election methods and the candidate's list.

The former Wuxi New District, now known as Wuxi Xinwu district or Wuxi National Hi-tech district, was founded in 1992 and underwent administrative changes in 1995, 2002 and 2005.
