Wuxi drives forward modern industrial development

Speaking at the fourth session of the 12th National People's Congress in Beijing on March 7, Wuxi Party secretary, Li Xiaomin, spoke of the city's remarkable success across modern industries and laid out its future industrial landscape. Two days later, the city of Wuxi officially launched a new plan to develop its modern industries in 2016.

Output value: 1.8 and 4.4 percent increase in above-scale and scale industries.

Investment: 7 percent increase in fixed-asset investment with 180 industrial projects totaling 100 billion yuan ($15 billion) investment; 15 and 21 local enterprises were listed among China's top 500 enterprises and top 500 manufacturing enterprises, both the most in Jiangsu province for nine consecutive years.

Innovation: High-tech industrial output value accounted for 41.5 percent in that of above-scale industries; R&D spending owned 2.8 percent share in GDP; Contribution rate of science and technology progress broke 60 percent.

Green development: Energy consumption per unit of GDP cut by 5 percent; GDP output per unit of construction lands reached 581,000 million yuan ($89,000 million) per square kilometer leading the province.

As 2016 is the first year of the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-2020), the city of Wuxi will make structural reform on the supply front a priority, promote the integration of industries and informatization, and provide impetus for growth and sustainable economic development.

Output value: 4.8 and 7.5 percent increase in output value and added value of above-scale industries.

Investment: 12 percent increase in industrial investment; bring in one or two leading projects worth more than $1 billion or 10 billion yuan.

The former Wuxi New District, now known as Wuxi Xinwu district or Wuxi National Hi-tech district, was founded in 1992 and underwent administrative changes in 1995, 2002 and 2005.
