The city of Wuxi, Jiangsu province, has topped a national smart city development list for its high level in smart infrastructure construction at the 2015 China Smart City Meeting held in Beijing, on Nov 26.

Zhang Keping, director of the city's information and radio administration bureau, addressed the meeting. He described the concept of Wuxi's smart city construction: "Integration, Optimization, Sharing and Outsourcing". He also introduced the implementation method by which the municipal government takes the lead, enterprises serve as the main active participants, and the market runs the system.

In recent years, Wuxi has achieved a great deal in smart city construction. It has launched a three-year plan to establish a big data center, built four service platforms covering fields of e-government, city management, economic operation and public welfare, and initiated 25 model application projects.

On Oct 19, 2015, the city launched its online public service platform on Tencent's apps WeChat, Mobile QQ and Tencent News to provide 11 public services for Wuxi residents including traffic queries, weather forecasts, and online payments.

The city will launch more public service projects in transportation, healthcare, education and culture in the future, contributing to its smart city development.

The former Wuxi New District, now known as Wuxi Xinwu district or Wuxi National Hi-tech district, was founded in 1992 and underwent administrative changes in 1995, 2002 and 2005.
