Major photovoltaic project begins generating power in NETDA

The first phase of a photovoltaic power project, in the Nantong Economic and Technological Area (NETDA) of Jiangsu province came to an end, on July 14, marking the start of generating 1.5 megawatts of power.

The project, with backing from the ZTT Photovoltaic Technology Co, has a planned installed capacity of 4 megawatts. This is part of Jiangsu’s first 35-kilovolt project, the highest voltage of any of China’s photovoltaic power projects.

The area project uses 6,020 solar cell modules arrayed across the rooftops of buildings, with a daily capacity of 7,000 kW-hours of electricity. The system has a 25-year lifespan, with offset energy use so the company can transmit the excess electricity to the national grid.

  • The NETDA Free Trade Zone got the original go-ahead, on Jan 3, 2013, from the State Council, for a 5.29-sq-km area, in two parts.
