Swimming has become a first option for summer sports. On June 14th, more than 50 swimmers took part in a Hao River swimming event, held by the swimming association of Chongchuan District, Nantong.

The event was mainly held in the northern Hao River with an outside temperature of around 30℃, and covered a distance of 500 meters each way. “With the water clearer, more residents want to embrace their mother river; while we would also like to call for more people to guard our river,” said Mao Xiaodong, organizer of the event.

The Hao River stretches 10 kilometers and covers an area of 0.72 square km, with a breadth ranging from 10 to 216 meters. It’s the most preserved ancient moat that runs through the city center and one of the four existing ancient moats in the country.

To guarantee the safety of participants, the organizers arranged early monitoring and on-site assistance. Gu Ming, president of the swimming association expressed his wish to hold more events for residents getting closer to their mother river.
