Nantong's biggest water projects take shape

Largest emergency water supply projects in Nantong city - Star Lake and Cloud Lake Reservoir and Wetland Park - were excavated in January. Work on the two man-made reservoirs is expected to start soon. Bidding on the first phase of Wetland Park has come to an end. Jiangsu Dongzhu landscape Company, the winning bidder, is currently designing the landscape and will start construction at the end of February.

The new emergency water supply project is located south of Jingxing road and on both sides of Tongsheng road in Nantong Economic and Technological Development Area (NETDA). Cloud Lake Reservoir, which covers an area of 1500 Mu, is surrounded by some newly-planted trees. The two islands at the center of Cloud Lake Reservoir are also surrounded by trees. A road near the Cloud Lake Reservoir has been partially paved with tar. Outside of the Cloud Lake Reservoir is a ditch that blocks sewage and fends off people and small animals from polluting the water.. Work on the Star Lake Reservoir project, which covers an area of 225 Mu (15 hectares), has started.

For Nantong, emergency water resources are the key channels for the city’s water supply. Work on Nantong emergency water and Wetland Park started in Laohonggang area of NETDA at the start of 2012. Laohonggang area is near the Yangtze river and many water networks and emergency channels have been developed taking the lay of the land into account.

The effective storage capacity of Star Lake and Cloud Lake Reservoir is three million cubic meters and 600,000 cubic meters of water will be pumped each day. The quality of Star Lake and Cloud Lake Reservoir water, which is drawn from the Yangtze river, will be improved through self-purification via aquatic plants and fish.
