Baotou specialties

Baotou specialties are mainly represented by beef, mutton and a variety of noodles. Many featured restaurants and delicacies are found in Gangtie Street, which is dubbed “the first street beyond the Great Wall”. There are also some snack booths at the intersection of Huancheng Road and Nanmenwai Street, offering all kinds of snacks with favorable prices.

Paneer

It’s a common milk dessert to Inner Mongolia locals. It looks like a tofu, tastes sour and delicious, can be stored in the fridge or dried in the sun for storage.

Dexingyuan Shaomai

Dexingyuan Shaomai is steamed with Xilin Gol Grassland mutton and high-quality Hetao flour. It looks like a pomegranate, can be taken as a dessert in banquet, or a local delicacy. It is popular for its thin skin, fresh and tender filling, fragrance and good shape.

Wang Xiaoer Pancake

It’s a traditional food in Inner Mongolia. It’s crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, convenient to eat and favorable in price.

Roasted whole lamb

Roasted whole lamb is a traditional Baotou delicacy. It is a whole roasted lamb, with the skin left on but the wool removed. The roasted lamb is golden red in color, with crispy skin and tender mutton. It is a symbol of Inner Mongolian cuisine.

Genghis Khan Teppanyaki

It’s a popular roasting method in Baotou. It is said that the founder of the Yuan Dynasty, Genghis Khan, liked the roasting method and spread it to many countries, so it is named after him. It is convenient to make, and the barbecue tools are easy to carry. Mutton is a good choice for teppanyaki; beef, meat, chicken, fish and shrimp are also good ingredients.
