The 2nd Wuhan Design Biennale and the 12th Xinhai Shouyi Cultural Festival are being held until Nov 30 in the Tanhualin artistic area of Hubei Institute of Fine Arts, in Wuhan, capital of Hubei province.

The events consist of six theme exhibitions concerning architectural and engineering design, and organizers are also holding forums, six international forums and four national forums, which have attracted experts from the United States, France, Japan, Sweden and Germany.

Yuan Kun, deputy secretary-general of the Wuhan municipal Party committee, said at a recent press conference that the events would focus on topics such as a retrospective of Wuhan engineering design which was held in Germany last year, as well as digital architecture and new media art.

He also said that historical architectural drawings and the application of new media art will showcase the cultural heritage of Wuhan and further promote the city's branding as a cultural center.

The events will showcase, for the first time in China, the application of new media art. Peng Hao, director of the Wuhan municipal committee of urban and rural construction, said that, in comparison with last year's event, this year's exhibition is focusing more on the individual and visitor participation and also on the diversity of activities, which will provide a platform for learning exchanges and demonstrate how the city manages to combine both development and culture and art.
