Updated: 2012-02-13

Residents of the Tujia and Miao ethnic minorities celebrated the Lantern Festival on February 6 in Shadaogou village, Xuan'en county, Enshi city in the Hubei province. Eighteen folk artist representative teams gathered from various villages and presented a cultural celebration to the residents. Their programs included a dragon and lion dance, dragon boat race, lotus dance, and copper rings game.

At around 9 o'clock, the Fifth Tujia and Miao Cultural Performance started. The performance was jointly held by the Xuan'en People's Government, Xuan'en Cultural and Sport Bureau and Xuan'en Nationality and Religion Bureau. The "golden dragon" and "grass dragon" danced to the folk music of gongs, drums and Suona (Chinese horn).

Xuan'en county has carried out the folk cultural performance to celebrate the Lantern Festival for several years.

Xuan'en county has collected and inherited several folk cultures in recent years and has established a folk cultural performance team. As a result, the performances have both enriched people's life and promoted the culture.
