First female Taoist abbot recruits graduates

Chinese first female Taoist abbot has recruited eight undergraduate and graduate students as her disciples for Taoism culture communication in Changchun Taoist Temple in Wuhan, Central China's Hubei province, Guangzhou Daily reported Wednesday.

Wu Chengzhen, 52, was appointed as the abbot of Changchun Taoist Temple in November 2009, and is the first female abbot in the 1,800-year history of Taoism.

She said she would run two classes this year for Taoism culture teaching and communication.

A vegetarian restaurant is open to public in Changchun Taoist Temple and research on healthy tea is conducted there for traditional culture promotion, according to the report.
