Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao wrapped up Saturday his two-day inspection tour of Wuhan, capital city of Central China's Hubei province, where he visited a river port, enterprises and a research institution to learn about the region's economic situation.

During his tour to the Yangluo harbor district, Wen urged local authorities to pay high attention to ecological environment protection and to step up efforts in pollution control.

Wen also visited the Donghu high and new-tech industrial development zone, where he talked with experts and hailed the scientific accomplishments achieved in gene, measurement, and geographical information system research.

While inspecting Wuhan Heavy-Duty Machine Tool Group Co, Wen encouraged the enterprise's staff to make efforts to improve efficiency and increase the company's competitiveness.

Premier Wen also stressed the importance of structural adjustment in the steel industry when visiting a high-tech company, calling for more efforts in promoting energy savings and emissions reductions.

During his tour, Wen also visited Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics with Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and low-rent housing communities. He ordered local authorities to increase investment so as to further improve social welfare for low-income earners.
