Zhao Xiaoting, example for young

The short life of Zhao Xiaoting, 20, a volunteer teacher and college student from Wuhan University, ended when a dislodged boulder hit her on July 21 as she crossed the unsurfaced road to the school where she had been working.

The Communist Youth League of China Committee of Hubei posthumously awarded Zhao the honorary title of "Outstanding College Volunteer" and called on other league members and young volunteers to learn from her example.

Zhao Xiaoting is the School of Electrical Engineering, Wuhan University, Electrical Engineering and Automation 2008 undergraduate students, the CPC members prepare.Last year, she did not choose to go home and reunited with their parents after a long absence, but the second time enrolled in the summer of Wuhan University social practice.

She and her 18 classmates began their one-month volunteer teaching work on July 12 at the Central Primary School in Machanghe Town, Guiding County in Qiannan Buyi and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, southwest China's Guizhou Province.

Machanghe Central Primary School in Guiding County, located in a sparsely populated mountain area, 40 or so kilometers from the county center, is a school for left-behind children,. Zhao Xiaoting taught classes in English, Singing and Security and was also an academic tutor, counselor and organizer of physical and cultural activities. Her cheerful disposition and proactive work attitude endeared her to everyone, especially her students, who knew her.

Guiding County is one of several areas in the south that has recently suffered continuous heavy rainstorms that have given rise frequent landslides.

A rolling boulder hit and instantaneously killed Zhao Xiao at 5 pm on July 21 as she was on her way to take an outdoor activity.

The China Communist Youth League Hubei Committee, Hubei Union of Students and Hubei Volunteer Association called on all league members and young volunteers to learn from Zhao Xiaoting's example of serving the people at the grassroots and her indomitable, tenacious character.
