The Global Big Data Exchange (GBDE) based in Southwest China's Guizhou province signed a partnership with the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) in commercial data module development on Dec 11. The GBDE will access data of the CME.

Starting its operations in April 2015, the GBDE is the first big data exchange in the world. Headquartered in Guiyang, capital city of Guizhou province, it also has two operation centers in Beijing and Shanghai, as well as 11 transaction service centers across China. Its tradable data capacity has exceeded 150 petabytes. Over 1,500 enterprises and companies have registered as members to exchange and trade data-related assets and services.

The CME is a world-leading derivative exchange based in Chicago. Dealing with more than 3 billion contracts annually, it provides the market for contracting parties. It also connects individuals, enterprises and organizations that need to manage risk or make a profit through risk. Its electronic trading system Globex allows market participants across the world to trade while sitting at home or office thousands of miles away.

"The cooperation between the GBDE and the CME would facilitate the integration of commercial data in the two countries and bring about more targeted big data applications to meet diversified market demands," said Wang Sanshou, chief executive officer of the GBDE.
