Chinese multinational automaker Geely is set to build a huge manufacturing base at the Guiyang Hi-tech & Baiyun District Engine Industrial Park, according to reports from Guizhou City News on Feb 12.

The 5-billion-yuan ($727 million) project will see Geely, in partnership with its subsidiary Volvo, construct a 200-mu (13.3 hectare) production base for its 1.5TD engine. The base is expected to be completed in 2019, and will include processing, assembly, and production lines, as well as a management center, and testing facilities.

Guiyang Hi-tech & Baiyun District Engine Industrial Park specializes in military and civilian industrial engine production, and has puts its full support behind the Geely project.

“We will spare no efforts in making the park an advanced industrial base in terms of engine production,” said Huang Changxiang, director of the Administrative Committee of the park.

Geely has six production bases on the Chinese mainland and a further four overseas. Chairman Li Shufu has said that the company plans for 15 production bases worldwide with two-thirds of its cars being sold outside China.
