Guiyang working with Baidu on smart map

The public transportation administration of the city of Guiyang, Guizhou province has reached a cooperative agreement with Baidu, one of China's biggest web service companies, with HQ in Beijing on integrating local data with the company's map business.

In commenting on the move, Liu Chuncheng, Guiyang's vice-mayor said, "Using our data resources and the advanced technology of Baidu will give us better transportation information services," then added that they intend to cooperate more in data mining and applications to improve civil services.

The agreement calls for Baidu to provide transportation information for the city and combine it with big data and cloud computing and other information and officials say the Baidu map which provides specific traffic information, can help avoid traffic jams and eventually parking and traffic-violation information.
