Starting in July this year, all buses, taxis, sightseeing chartered vehicles and coach vehicles are required to install a GPS system. The action will fully make use of big data technology and thus enable 24-hour supervision of public service vehicles and full day updates of the utility vehicle situation to the public.

According to the statistics released by the Guiyang road and transportation management bureau, Guiyang city has currently registered 7,000 taxis, 2,200 public buses and 3,000 sightseeing buses. The GPS installation work is in progress. Meanwhile, all coach vehicles in Guiyang’s 30 driving schools and heavy trucks will have to install monitoring terminals.

Right after the completion of the installation work, the road and transportation bureau will realize the remote supervision and management of all public vehicles. Taking the taxis as an example, bureau officers can remotely position the locations of every taxi, record the driving data, including the communication between taxi drivers and passengers and bad driving behaviors such as smoking inside cars and using mobile phones.

On the other hand, after the installation, the driving path and stopping-by points of all public service buses are under control, which can effectively regulate the public transportation services, reduce illegal activities such as refusing to take passengers, fatigue driving and speeding, to ensure passengers’ rights and security.
