The year of 2016, essential for the civil engineering construction of Ethiopia GD-3 dam project, will see the completion of this project. To fulfill the majority of construction works before the rainy season brought many difficulties to the Project Management Division, who, nevertheless, has initiatively worked them out by elaborate administration and transforming the way of thinking and consequently, pushed the dam construction ahead into the sprint stage with all efforts.
The Project Management Division was pressed for time to complete the remaining heavy tasks, so the leading group attached such close attention that they had made scientific and detailed constructing plan in the beginning of the year. They adopted effective measures to guarantee its successful implementation in two ways: first, they integrated the project division and plant-house project into joint resources of manpower and facilities which were fully utilized in the dam construction; second, project management was intensified by setting up a Progress Administration and Supervision Group led by the project manager. Hence, existing problems could be resolved in time so that the dam construction proceeded as schedule; third, their rigorous regulation required technical disclosures before construction, absolute adherence to rules and specifications and construction technology so as to ensure the technological standard of the engineering quality; fourth, construction safety was carefully supervised by practicing check-ups before working to enhance safety awareness; fifth, they made all efforts to supply adequate materials and equipments and assigned staff with excellent technical skills and strong sense of responsibility to positions of inspection, maintenance and operation for successful concreting; sixth, they focused on substantial results even in the labor emulation. During the competition of Work Horse and Foot for 100 Days, they pressed ahead with concreting and control the quality and security standards, everybody eager to devote to the sprinting of GD-3 dam construction as pioneers.
As for the concreting works, tt is reported that the dam body has been competed up to 1121 meters with only 4 meters on the top left. The surface water-proofing of face and toe slabs has been done for 3500 meters, with the left 1152 meters to do. Among the total 27 pieces of the wave wall, 17 ones have been finished. Nearly 36% of the blanket of the dam, covering 65 thousand cubic meters, was implemented.
