Abstract: Adhering to and developing the “Fengqiao experience” in the new era and promoting the modernization of urban social governance are of great importance for improving the socialist system with Chinese characteristics and advancing the modernization of China’s governance system and governance capacity. Qixia district community in Nanjing city, Jiangsu province has innovated the city model of “Fengqiao experience”, focusing on the actual needs of urban residents, spatial pattern evolution, demand for social co-governance and information technology development. Based on the “four-in-one” measure of urban governance goal, major issues, mechanism and means, it has improved people’s wellbeing through resolving conflicts, grassroots-level Party building and grassroots-level governance, government guidance and social coordination, as well as online and offline governance. In the future, we still need to steadily strengthen the supply of urban public services and consolidate the people’s livelihood foundation for social governance; we need to continue to shift the focus of urban governance closer to the community and strengthen the ability of grassroots social governance; we need to continue to stimulate the vitality of urban social organizations and improve the mechanism of social coordination and co-governance; we need to vigorously promote smart urban governance and strengthen scientific and technological support of social governance.
