Research Report, No.50, 2019 (Total 5550) 2019-4-10

Abstract: Through technology introduction and independent research and development, China’s communication equipment manufacturing industry has formed a gradually improved industrial chain and significantly enhanced innovation capacity with a relatively complete industrial system. A number of communication equipment manufacturers with global competitiveness have emerged. Among them, Huawei and ZTC corporations have become the world-class manufacturers and their experience makes good reference for other industries. However, as regards the industry as a whole, there are still some problems to be addressed such as the absence of key technical capacity, the inappropriate domestic legislation and the lack of vitality of some enterprises. These problems restrict enterprises from maintaining and sharpening their competitive edges. Moreover, as the global environment for communication industry has become increasingly volatile due to fierce non-market competition among countries, China’s communication equipment manufacturers will face greater uncertainty and more risks and challenge in the future. On the basis of maintaining the business vitality, the government needs to accelerate the development of core technologies, create a safe and controllable industrial environment and flesh out the relevant legal system so as to enable these enterprises to expand their overseas presence. Consequently, the Chinese communication equipment manufacturers would be shored up to maintain the world-class level in face of more complex international conditions.
