Abstract: Innovation and entrepreneurship-oriented education, aiming at the cultivation of students’ innovation spirit, entrepreneurial awareness, and creative and starting-up ability, has become a major trend of the higher education development in the world. The US and the UK have always been leading the world in the practices of innovation and entrepreneurship-oriented education. Despite the differences in the development models among countries, many common features exist. These features mainly include: the highlighting of strategic and high penetration in the talent training system; the establishment of the deeply-integrated system of innovation and entrepreneurship-oriented education, the formation of an innovation and entrepreneurship-oriented education ecosystem with the synergy between government, society and universities; and the quality improvement of colleges and universities relying on the scientific and reasonable system of quality evaluations. Based on the reality of deepening innovation and entrepreneurship-oriented education reform in China’s colleges and universities, the following four enlightenments could be concluded. Firstly, further understanding the nature of innovation and entrepreneurship-oriented education is the premise to deepening the reform. Secondly, the deep integration of innovation and entrepreneurship-oriented education and professional education is the key way to improve its quality. Thirdly, encouraging diversified exploration and expanding opening-up and cooperation are the important guarantee to improve education ecology. Fourthly, the establishment of a sustainable quality improvement mechanism is inseparable from a scientific and reasonable system of quality evaluations.
