Research report No.31, 2018 (Total 5306) 2018-2-9

Abstract: The report of the 19th CPC National Congress put forward the goal of striving to build China into a strong manufacturer with advanced manufacturing industry. Innovation is the major driving force of development whereas manufacturing industry is the principal force for making innovations. With China’s economy shifting from high-speed growth to high-quality development, the manufacturing industry has ushered in a key phase of improving the quality and efficiency of growth and must depend on innovation as a driving force to make China become a strong manufacturer. This paper mainly analyzes the current features and main influencing factors of the Chinese manufacturing industry in the course of launching innovations. Currently, the manufacturing industry is experiencing a new stage of innovation in which the industrial technology is featured by independent R&D instead of technology introduction with enforced technology supply capacity, diversified innovation modes and technological and managerial innovation complementing each other. However, the development of innovation activities is still unbalanced and inadequate between different enterprises and between various industrial sectors in relevant fields. Besides, globally renowned Chinese manufacturing enterprises are limited, which does not match China’s status as a manufacturing power. In face of the new round of technological revolution and industrial reform as well as fierce international competitions, we need to cultivate an environment with global competitiveness to make China grow into a strong manufacturer.
