Research Report No. 82, 2017 (Total. 5157) 2017-7-26

Abstract: Spring Festival, National Day and other holidays could always witness a sea of tourists in China. Holiday tourism has played an active role in raising living standard of the people, stimulating consumption and expanding domestic demand. With the growing number of tourists during holidays, the scenic spots would become overcrowded in every part, leading to destruction of tourism resources, decline of tourism quality, damage in the image of scenic spots and prominent security risks. In some places, even stampede accidents occurred, arousing great social concerns, and impeding the sustained and healthy development of tourism industry. The main reasons for these problems are as follows: the booming number of tourists on holidays, structural imbalance of tourism supply, improper tourism management system, and the lack of tourism safety facilities. We need to address the above-mentioned issues by fleshing out the tourism supply-side structural reform, improving the management system of scenic spots during tourist season and developing smart tourism.
