Research Report No 185, 2014 (Total 4684)

Abstract:

Wandi Village in Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province, was a poor village about 30 years ago, but it is now developing into a well-off society and model village known for its well-developed collective economy, in addition to its development as an ecologically friendly society, integrated industrial development, and simultaneous development of traditional folk customs and modern new countryside. The success comes from the people-oriented philosophy and entrepreneurship, good leadership that puts the well-being of villagers at the forefront, scientific methods, cautious style of work in business as well as the approach of sharing collective achievements among all members. The Wangdi Village experience has proved that the village-based collective economy can play an important role in promoting the development of the village community. At present, efforts should be made to improve the leadership selection system and improve the supervision system to avoid faults in major project programs. In addition, both the village collective development and the sharing of economic development achievements should be taken into account when assessing the work of village leadership. Meanwhile, the central government needs to increase policy support to make the land resources an important pillar of the village-based collective economy.
