Institute of World Development

The main function of the Institute of World Development (IWD) is to undertake strategic and comprehensive studies of major issues in global political, economic and social development for the purpose of providing information, consulting advice and policy recommendations to the government.

The IWD maintains wide connections with research institutions, societies, experts, and scholars at home and abroad in its efforts to conduct open, policy-oriented, non-profit academic research and consulting services.

The IWD also undertakes monographic studies and consulting projects assigned by the DRC and entrusted by government departments, international agencies, enterprises, and other institutions at home and abroad. It also conducts surveys and studies in cooperation with overseas institutions.

The IWD publishes the following two internal journals: World Development Studies and Working Papers of World Development. The institute also publishes a comprehensive annual research book on the state of global development.

In order to promote domestic and international academic exchanges and cooperation, the IWD invites noted scholars from home and abroad to give lectures. In addition, it sponsors seminars and conferences and publishes conference papers. It also sends groups of researchers to participate in academic exchange activities in China and other nations.
