DRC's department head speaks at university

Meng Chun, the vice director of the Development Research Center's Macroeconomic Research Department, spoke on current macroeconomics and the future outlook, the evening of June 20, at Beijing Technology and Business University.

In discussing the European debt crisis, Meng described the relations between European debt and the euro and pointed out that, since the cause of the crisis has not been removed, no effective mechanism has been established, and that it all depends on Germany's views on solving the problem.

He also gave an analysis of the current slowdown in economic growth and China's demographics, as well as the decrease in labor demand and infrastructure investment as being something worthy of attention, along with other domestic and international problems.

In conclusion, Meng answered some questions on how to deal with changes in economic growth and macro policy, by stating that, first, it needs to be based on the notion of improving stability and steady growth and long-term profits. At the same time, we need to continue with structural adjustments and pay more attention to reform-oriented supply policies combined with practice. There also needs to be an effort to promote reforms in basic industries, which will not only solve the slowdown in current economic growth, but also provide a foundation for long-term, steady growth.
