Daming Palace
Significance of Daming Palace Pavilion

While Shanghai Expo emphasizes using modern technology in promoting daily life, the ancient and dainty "Daming Palace Pavilion" stands at the Urban Best Practices Area of Expo Garden.

It is constructed in accordance with the original sketch of Xifeng Pavilion of Hanyuan Hall at Xi'an's Daming Palace National Heritage Park. With 150 city candidates, Daming Palace stands out by virtue of its features.

First, it can remind us to protect our heritage. In the Tang dynasty, there are altogether three grand palaces, among which Daming Palace is the largest one and represents the Tang architectural culture. All Chinese have the responsibility to restore and cherish our architectural treasure.

Second, historical cultural heritage can keep in harmony with the infrastructure of a modern city, which can beautify our environment and improve our living standard. “Better city, better life” is not just a slogan, but a spiritual and practical belief. The charm of a modern city rests in its integration of historical legacies with modern elements.

Last but not least, it is part of a new plan to protect historical heritage in the process of modernization. The Xi’an government built Daming Palace National Heritage Park to put that plan into practice.
