Yunnan: over 90% patent applications filed electronically

The statistics of the State Intellectual Property Office show that in January 2011, four of the 11 patent agencies in Yunnan Province filed 90% of their applications electronically. These companies include Kunming Hezong Zhixin IP Firm, Kunming Xianghe IP Agent Co., Ltd., Yunnan Xieli Patent Firm (each of which had 100% electronic filings), and Kunming Zhengyuan Patent Agent Co., Ltd. (which had 91.5% electronic filings). They are ranked No. 178, 230, 234 and 386 respectively, among the 403 patent agencies nationwide which have more than 90% of electronic filings.

Xi’an: first TV plays transaction center still to perfect

China’s first transaction center of television plays is on its way, which has been organized by Shaanxi Cultural Industry Investment Group Co., Ltd., following the approval by the State Administration of Radio Film and Television. The platform is intended for the rapid growth of the television play sector and the nationwide transactions of novel adaptations, television scripts, television and Internet copyrights and audio/visual copyrights, as well as cartoon, movie and television programs. It is looking for ways to develop a first-rate transaction center for television plays and their upstream and downstream products, in order for a healthy growth of the related sectors in China.

Jiangsu: marching to a strong IP province

Statistics show that the patent applications and grants in Jiangsu Province increased by 45.6% and 64.7% on average annually, totally 680,421 and 321,385 respectively, during the 11th Five Year Plan. The province ranked No. 1 in China during the recent two years, not only for its applications and grants, but also for its corporate applications and corporate grants. In 2010, its invention patent applications came out first in the country, with local industrial enterprises accounting for 48% of the provincial total of self-developed IPs and brands. Jiangsu has established itself as a strong IP province.

Shanghai: customs tracked down 225 IP violations since last October

Shanghai Customs published on March 15 its statistics, saying that 225 IP violations involving 213 pieces of goods, with the total prices up to 15 million Yuan, were tracked down by the agency between last October and this February. This is part of the special action from last October on IP infringements and counterfeits and poor quality goods. Many cases involve foreign clients who asked domestic OEM suppliers to manufacture infringing products. The agency recommends that domestic OEM suppliers must develop a higher sense towards IP protection and avoid gaining by infringing the IP rights of others.
