On October 28, 2010, “The 3rd Seminar of Copyright Protection from Two Sides of Taiwan Strait” themed with promoting the implementation of “The IPR protection Cooperation Agreement between Two Sides of Taiwan Strait” and boosting the communication of publishing and the development of copyright industries was held in Beijing.
Shen Rengan, the director of Copyright Society of China, said the annual seminar should have multiple goals. One should be to promote pragmatic interests, such as strengthening cooperation between two sides, jointly cracking down on piracy and other infringement activities, promoting the development of copyright industries. A second is to highlight important theories and principles, such as researching the traditional culture and philosophy of China from Confucius to Sun Yat-sen and studying the evolution of Chinese history since the Revolution of 1911.
The seminar also aims to come up with a modern theory on copyright that is in accordance with Chinese national philosophy by investigating the development of legislation as well as legal systems on copyright adopted by developed countries such as Europe, U.S., Japan and other countries.
Vice President of the Chinese Commercial & Industrial Coordination Society (CCICS), Liao Zhide, expressed that the “Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA)” signed in July, 2010, aims to lower tariffs, remove non-tariff trade barriers, and enhance economic cooperation between two sides. It also seeks to allow people on both sides enjoy peace and development and mutual benefit which would be a win-win situation.
