Minister of justice emphasizes legal support for Hainan pilot free trade zone

Fu Zhenghua, minister of justice, emphasized the necessity of legal support for the construction of the Hainan pilot free trade zone during an investigation and research tour to the zone from June 7 to 9.

The delegation led by Fu visited Hainan Arbitration Commission, Haikou public legal service center, and Hainan Province Planning Exhibition Hall, and held discussions with Hainan governmental departments and expert, scholar and lawyer representatives and listened to their advices.

Respect for the rule of law is the overarching consideration in building the Hainan pilot free trade zone, and all the reforms should have legal underpinnings, he said.

He also pointed out the necessity of collecting useful domestic and foreign experience in Hainan legal construction and legal requirements in building the pilot free trade zone and realizing top-level design.

It’s necessary to set up normal working mechanism and carry out research to build a sound legal and business environment for the zone, Fu said.

Fu also added that in order to realize top-level design for national major strategy in providing legal construction service, the Ministry of Justice is still working on special research with focus on the construction of the Belt and Road, Yangtze River Economic Zone and national free trade zone.
