Paper-cutting artist Kou Baoling, from Pingyuan county, Dezhou, Shandong, recently drew significant acclaim at the Beijing Central Axis Intangible Cultural Heritage and Creative Products Exhibition.

His collection, titled Fifteen Scenes of the Central Axis, is a stunning tribute to the world's longest urban axis, which runs north to south through the heart of historical Beijing. The remarkable series includes one giant scroll, 15 hanging scrolls, and 25 framed pieces, all meticulously crafted from paper.

The centerpiece of the collection is the magnificent 30-meter scroll, which masterfully depicts Beijing's majestic landmarks along the central axis, including Tiananmen Square. The piece is rendered in vivid shades of red, yellow, and blue, with intricate and lifelike details that leave viewers in awe.

According to the artist, the project began in May 2022 and was completed in October 2024. The collection features iconic architectural gems along the axis, such as the Palace Museum, Tiantan (Temple of Heaven) Park, and Tiananmen Square.

The works possess immense artistic value, bringing the grandeur and history of the Central Axis to life through the traditional Chinese art of paper-cutting. (Edited by Yang Yingxue)
